Over the past 10 years, the rates of diagnoses for Autism have increased by 175%, with "young adults aged 26 to 34... increasing by 450% over the study period" (Autism Speaks).
As our society's understanding of Autism grows, so does the level of validation and empowerment for each adult that now has an answer for why they function differently.
While there are resources available for kids through teens, many young adults and adults report not finding resources appropriate for them.
One of my (Caitlin's) passions is to work with adults on the spectrum who were diagnosed later in life and now have a new lens in which to see their past, present, and future.
The diagnosis of Autism carries many different messages, stigmas, and assumptions. Part of integrating a new diagnosis, and forming a solid sense of self, is to learn what that diagnosis actually means and how it impacts your life.
If you are an adult who has been diagnosed with Autism, Pathway Counseling can be a resource for you. We offer individual counseling sessions, as well as couple's and group counseling, specifically focused on adults who have been recently diagnosed and desire to learn more about who they are.
