How Resolute began

Resolute began in the fall of 2024. The idea was formed a year earlier, in the fall of 2023, out of a string of health problems — one leading into the next over several months.

I tore both rotator cuffs in the gym in August 2023. The pain kept me from sleeping. The lack of sleep activated my autoimmune disease, and severe pain spread through my whole body — I could barely bend over to pick something up off the floor or stand from a seated position. The exhaustion and the pain put me into afib. Then my Lyme disease reactivated.

Between the new medications and two surgeries to repair the rotator cuffs, most of my days were spent in a recliner, waiting for my body to heal.

I listened to several sermons a day and kept asking God what He wanted me to learn. What He laid on my heart was this: I had become content in the work I was doing in the local church, and there were tens of thousands of students five miles from my house I could be reaching.

Over the past two decades I had built partnerships with the leaders of the faith-based ministries on the UCF campus. I reached out to one of them and asked if I could volunteer beginning in the fall of 2024 — whatever he needed.

What started as volunteering to meet with a few young men became Resolute.

I had become content. And there were tens of thousands of students five miles from my house.

So what is Resolute?

To be resolute means to stand firm — unwavering, anchored, firmly fixed in your purpose and belief, determined — so that nothing can move you from your position.

Resolute mentors and disciples young men toward becoming men of God and men of prayer: men who will lead in their homes, their businesses, their communities, and their churches. Men who will love their wives and their children, and be an example to everyone around them.

The Bible studies

Each study runs across the fall and spring semesters, meeting at least twice a month, alongside other activities that build unity and a strong foundation in the group.

Year One — Resolute

Learning how to stand for Christ in every decision of your life.

• How to read the Word of God to know it
• How to be consumed by the Word of God
• How to study the Word of God

Year Two — Contend Earnestly

Learning the truths of Scripture to combat false teaching. Taken from Jude 3–4.

• What it means to contend earnestly for the faith
• Truth or counterfeit: how to recognize the difference
• Who is Jesus, and does it really matter
• Different ways to share your faith on campus

Year Three — Not Ashamed

Learning to fall in love with the gospel and understand the power of God, so that you can know Him with a depth most Christians only dream about.

• Understanding the gospel and the power of God
• How to live as if you are dead
• Martyrs for the truth

Year Four — still to be named

God has not yet given me the title for the fourth year. When He does, it will be here.

Off campus Activities 

Day trips

Hosted by local Christian businessmen who want to invest in college students — golf, skeet shooting, bowling, and more.

Meals together

Simple fellowship that builds unity in the group and gives the guys a natural way to bring someone new in.

Quarterly dinners with Christian businessmen

Beginning in the fall of 2026, local business leaders host a steak dinner in their homes so the young men can ask questions and get to know professionals from every walk of life — engineers, attorneys, medical professionals, builders, and others.

The Annual trip

The most recent was eight days of hiking in the mountains of North Georgia and Tennessee. The purpose is spiritual growth and the kind of unity that carries a group into a new semester. The focus is prayer — learning how to pray for the glory of God.

Disciple makers

The point is to lead by example. Every young man in Resolute is being prepared to go and impact the life of another student on this campus.
