Suely Rivera grew up in a military family. Originally born in Panama, she lived in North Carolina and Virginia before her father was finally stationed in Central Florida.  Growing up in a Latin home, discussing emotions and hurt was not a common occurrence. As an adolescent, she began to understand she was the daughter of a parent with a mental illness. Yet, often felt inadequately prepared on how to cope and understand the illness. Through her faith and personal counseling, Suely’s life has transformed. She has become passionate about educating the Latin community on mental illness as it often goes unaddressed.

Suely believes creating a safe environment for the client to share their uncensored story.  Suely is a therapist who enjoys working with adolescents and their families,  young adults and couples going through an array of concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, postpartum, self-image, and marital and family conflict. She also has a passion for working with church pastors and leaders who often need an outlet. She uses a collaborative approach with her clients and incorporates play and expressive arts techniques in sessions. Suely is a facilitator for Prepare-Enrich and has completed her externship for Emotion-Focused Couples therapy.  She also completed a training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral therapy.

Suely is a graduate from Palm Beach Atlantic University where she obtained her Master of Science in Counseling Psychology with a specialty in Mental Health and her Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She is happily married to Joey and they have one daughter. They are pastors of a church plant called the Refuge. In her free time, you can find her nose in a book while enjoying the beach life of Florida.
